How to Write Great Copy: 3 Tips for Writing Marketing Copy That Compels & Sells

Reading Time: 3 minutes

This is a common situation for business owners:  You have a great product or service, but you just can’t seem to get people to take action. Sound familiar? If so, keep reading.

Many small business owners struggle to write copy that sparks interest and encourages engagement among readers. The truth is, great copy isn’t about the best subject line, it’s not about an enticing call-to-action, and it’s not even really about the product. It’s about compassion.

Here’s what I highlight in the video above:

1. Great copywriting is the key to your business’ success

If you could learn one skill to improve how you market your company, then copywriting would be it.

I would go as far as saying that copywriting is one of the most important tools you need to have business success.

2. Having “a great product” isn’t enough

Marketing is a dirty word for a lot of business owners. They don’t like doing it or even thinking about it. They’d rather focus on delivering their product or service. Some would even prefer doing mundane admin work over handling their company’s marketing tasks! Perhaps they figure if they just do a good job, customers will show up, and everything will work out.

That’s why, within a few years, most new businesses fail. They put all of their focus on what they’re selling but never consider how they’ll share it with their potential customers.

Yes, your product or service needs to be good. That’s a given. And yes, you need to keep the operations side of your business running. But a great product and strong operations alone do not bring customers. Marketing brings customers (I discuss it in more detail here). And writing is at the heart of any marketing strategy.

3. You CAN write great copy! Here’s how:

You don’t have to write perfect, beautiful words. Just write the truth. Be sincere. Be real. If you can really help people, tell them how! Let them know that you understand their problem and that you can offer a solution. I know for a fact that writing honest, compassionate copy works. I’ve used it in my own businesses and have seen amazing results with it.

So, you want to know how to write great copy. It’s simple, really. Start with the heart. Let your readers know that you care about them on a human level and that you genuinely want to help them.

Offer the value they’re looking for without all the fluff, and let customers decide to buy because what you’re offering makes their life better. That’s all it takes. Compelling copy comes from the heart.
